This week:

Practices:
Monday 5:00-6:30 AM/3:45-6:45 PM
Tuesday 3:45-6:45 PM
Wednesday 3:45-6:15 PM
Thursday 5:00-6:30 AM/3:45-6:45 PM
Friday 5:00-6:30 AM
Saturday 6:00-8:00 AM

Notes:
We will not be swimming the Friday night at the IMX meet, as the meet is much too large and not originally intended for our group. We will have the most opportunities to swim the 800/1500 free. Instead we will practice that morning 5:00-6:30 AM, and have off in the afternoon.
Additionally, with the meet going on Saturday, we will need to swim from 6:00-8:00 AM, no dryland.
Seems like most athletes have exams or other conflicts around the Ultra Swim. I, in many ways like the UGA meet better than the Ultra Swim. Plenty of competition at UGA, and less disruptive to training and school schedule. Rich is going to the Ultra Swim, so feel free to sign up. I am going to the UGA Meet.
In working with the Palo Alto team for the Santa Clara Meet, looks like they can accommodate our swimmers with Senior National Cuts, and maybe the next few closest. They will have final numbers to us around the 1st of May.
I have purchased my flight for the Santa Clara Trip. Please contact me before you purchase to make sure we have housing arranged. Red-eye home, you guys will love it! We will take a Super Shuttle to Stanford campus from the airport, will need about $15.00 (twice, each way) for the trip.
Departing: Wednesday, June 15, 2011 Airtran Airways
Atlanta, GA (ATL) to San Francisco, CA (SFO) Flight 321
10:24 AM 12:44 PM
Returning: Sunday, June 19, 2011 Airtran Airways
San Francisco, CA (SFO) to Atlanta, GA (ATL) Flight 328
10:55 PM 6:40 AM (next day)

The Florida travel trip is due on Monday the 25th. Those going to Santa Clara, to attend both would be a lot of travel in a short period of time. I would not recommend it, except in certain circumstances. Other than that, this is a competitive meet that all have liked. Please get your forms and money in to me Monday.
On Tuesday the 26th at 6:45 PM in the weight room at Chamblee is our “parent meeting’ for this season.

Thanks,

JT

Hello Team,

I am enjoying the meetings in Colorado Springs. We’ve talked about the Olympic Team schedule and preparations, as well as Trials info. Great talk (meandering) on nutrition and a how to think of it, and assemble meals. Carol Dweck, Ph.D., who wrote the book I like Mindset gave a great presentation. Most talks centered around kicking, dryland and the mental aspects of preparation. Not new information, but packaged differently. New National Team Director has spoken several times, and everyone feels very good about him.

Couple of items;

· I have met with Palo Alto coach, and we will finalize the billeting situation for the Santa Clara Meet by May 1. We anticipate sending out those swimmers with Senior National cuts, or close depending on PASA’s ability to accommodate. I will book my flight this coming week, and then publicize so that athletes can get on the same flight. This is a Team both Rich and I have worked for and with, and they will do a great job of taking care of us. They are very similar to us, I’d say.

· The group should swim two out of three in June: Dixie, Santa Clara and Florida. Tough to do both Santa Clara and Florida, but could be done. Florida stuff due this week.

· Practices the rest of this week:

§ Wednesday 3:45-6:15 PM

§ Thursday 5:00-6:30 AM and 3:45-6:45 PM

§ Friday 8:00-10:00 AM

§ Saturday and Sunday off

§ Saturday 7:00-9:30 AM if missed any during the week, or didn’t swim mornings.

§ I worked to get our volumes in by Friday to give families some time off for the Easter Weekend.

§ If you have school on Friday (Rishi? Sarah W?) communicate with me, I will arrange.

· See you on Thursday morning.

· Thanks for the help and participation in the Car Wash, and Swimathon. Remember that it ends soon.

Thanks,

JT

July 8-10 Dynamo Senior Circuit Meet (Last Chance)
July 14-17 Sr Sectional (UGA/All) Q Events
July 22-24 Sr State Note date change
July 26-31 Southern Zone Championships (Raleigh, NC) Apply by April 15
August 2-6 Senior Nationals (Palo Alto) Qual Times
August 8-13 Junior Nationals (Palo Alto) Qual Times

Swim either UGA Meet or Ultra Swim in May, and two out of three in June. I am trying to get us to meets that will prepare us for end of season competition, and this meet lineup is more bold than in years past.

The whole group will swim at Sectionals this Season, and then either Sr State or Meets in Palo Alto.

GA Swimming is picking the 15-18 zone team differently this year, and applications must be in by April 15, for those interested.

We are working on billeting relationship with Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics for the Santa Clara Meet for our athletes. Should have an idea by 20th of April (after conference in Colorado Springs), and have talked about reciprocating for the SC Senior National Meet in Atlanta this December.

Note: Only the Fort Lauderdale trip Juniors in Palo Alto will be a traditional "team trips", where athletes stay together with coaches and chaperones. Again, we are working on a biletting situation for the Santa Clara Meet. All other meets athletes are responsible for travel on their own.

Equipment
Please review and have all equipment in your bag to start the new season. We are often slowed down in practice looking for equipment etc. Follow this link to our equipment list, and key on having multiple nose clips and a snorkel.

Swimathon
By now you’ve been made aware of the swimathon, from the kickoff last month, to the due date of April 29. Please take the time to make an online page, and promote the event easily to those not local. Our group has historically under-performed on the swimathon; please participate in this year’s event. Those who make a page will participate in a car wash on Saturday the 16th of April.

Goals
• Continue promoting skill over distance, rather than just distance
• Get more done during practice, manage transitions and message more efficiently
• Grow efficiency in each stroke; speed will come from efficiency.
• Get a large group of athletes qualified for Summer Juniors and 2012 Olympic Trials.

Please review some of your long course races from previous seasons. You should know your splits and stroke counts really well at the beginning of this season. Link to videos: http://gallery.me.com/jasonturx

Great job last season, excited to see where we can go from here.
